Growing lesbian delight and solidarity developed into the political consciousness of gay liberation that spread with the Stonewall riots of 1969 and the following years. Within the 1940s, lesbian group solidarity began to develop in the United States, and the 1950s built on that using nightlife at lesbian bars and home events.
